MARIE LAVEAUX

Tabletop Altar

Picture
The tabletop altar is the most common type used by people who come into the tradition from outside of New Orleans. To make a tabletop altar, simply arrange the items listed in the chart on a table or dresser top. Important items to include would be a focal object representing her in the center, surrounded by images of saints (at least Mother Mary and St. Anthony), two white candles, one blue candle, a clear glass of water with a crucifix , and other items listed you may have on hand. Don’t forget the wall space behind the altar where you can hang images of Marie Laveau or her saints, or her ritual symbol, referred to as a vévé.
